Evaluation of Potential New Opportunities for Herbal Plants as Natural Products on Rumen Fermentation Patterns in vitro

چکیده مقاله:
Two experiments (Exp.) were conducted to determine the effects of dietary addition of five herbal plants (HP) alone or as herbal plant mixture (HPM) on in vitro gas production and ruminal fermentation patterns. In Exp. 1, five varieties of HP (garlic, eucalyptus, cinnamon, thyme, and peppermint) were added to the diet at 3 different concentrations (5, 10 and 15% of concentrate dry matter). In Exp. 2, the HPM was used at the concentration of 2, 4 and 6%. The results show that most ruminal fermentation parameters were affected by HP and HPM. The addition of HP and HPM to the diet significantly increased total in vitro gas production (b) and the fractional rate constant of gas production (c, P<0.01). Concentrations of NH3 (Exp. 1), CH4 (Exp. 1 and 2), total volatile fatty acids (Exp. 1 and 2), acetate (Exp. 1), propionate (Exp. 1 and 2) and acetate/propionate ratio (Exp. 1) were affected by HP and HPM. Ruminal short-chain fatty acids (SCFA, Pin vivo conditions.

Natural Products as Manipulators of Rumen Fermentation
There is increasing interest in exploiting natural products as feed additives to solve problems in animal nutrition and livestock production. Essential oils and saponins are two types of plant secondary compounds that hold promise as natural feed additives for ruminants. This paper describes recent advances in research into these additives. The research has generally concentrated on protein met...
متن کاملEffects of Selected Medicinal Plants on Rumen Fermentation in a High-concentrate Diet in Vitro
The objective of this in vitro study was to compare fermentation patterns of seven selected traditional medicinal plants and investigate the effects of medicinal plant mixture (MPM) supplements and a high-concentrate diet (lucerne hay and barley grain, LH+BG, 40:60) on rumen fermentation and fatty acid composition. An MPM of Taraxacum officinale L., Acorus calamus L., Calendula officinalis L., ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Use Medicinal Plants on Rumen Fermentation Parameters in Ruminants
Rumen is a persistent and specific ecosystem consists of bacteria, protozoa and fungus where feed fermentation takes place in it. Produced Hydrogen in rumen can be used in the synthesis of the volatile fatty acids and the microbial protein and its excess would be eliminated through the production of Methane by methanogenesis. Nutritionists have tried to find ways to decrease loss and energy and...

متن کاملPotential of carvacrol to modify in vitro rumen fermentation as compared with monensin.
The aim of this study was to assess the effect of carvacrol supplement as a dietary additive to rumen fermentors, fed a barley seed:alfalfa hay (70:30) ration and to compare its effect with monensin supplementation. The material was incubated with goat ruminal fluid and four different treatments were included: no additive (C), 7.5 mg/l monensin (M), 250 mg/l carvacrol (C250) and 500 mg/l carvac...
متن کاملIn vitro Effects of Exogenous Fibrolytic Enzymes on Rumen Fermentation of Wild Guinea Grass (Panicum maximum)
This study aimed to evaluate the potential of commercial enzymes cellulase (CE), xylanase (XY) and the combination of CE + XY to improve rumen fermentation of Guinea grass ecotype ‘A’ (Panicum maximum). The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design. In vitro incubations were performed with four doses of individual enzymes and their combinations (1:1 from each enzyme) as 5...
